Damodaran Madhavi Vasudevan was born on the 6th of June, 1942, at Manjeri in Malappuram District, to Pullur Damodaran Nambudiri and Mangalath Madhavi Amma. His parents played a crucial role in the overall development of their son. He emulated his parents from whom he imbibed the basic values and virtues of life like honesty, respect, compassion, kindness, generosity and unconditional love.
Education and Early Career: Dr. D M Vasudevan began his illustrious medical journey with an M.B.B.S. degree from the University of Kerala in 1968. His passion for biochemistry led him to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, where he earned his M.D. in Biochemistry in 1971.
Post-Doctoral Research: Dr. D M Vasudevan pursued post-doctoral research at the prestigious Department of Immunology, Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research in Lausanne, Switzerland, from 1972 to 1974. During this period, he focused on groundbreaking research in immunology, contributing to the advancement of cancer research.
Advanced Training: In 1973, Dr. D M Vasudevan attended an Advanced Training Course in Immunology at the W.H.O. Immunology Laboratory in Lausanne, Switzerland, funded by a WHO Grant. His quest for knowledge led him to the National Institute of Nutrition in Hyderabad in 1975, where he completed a Certificate Course in “Endocrinological Techniques and Their Application.”
Professional Recognition: Dr. D M Vasudevan’s exceptional contributions to the field of pathology were recognized in 1994 when he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath), a testament to his expertise and dedication to the field.
