Damodaran Madhavi Vasudevan was born on the 6th of June, 1942, at Manjeri in Malappuram District, to Pullur Damodaran Nambudiri and Mangalath Madhavi Amma. His parents played a crucial role in the overall development of their son. He emulated his parents from whom he imbibed the basic values and virtues of life like honesty, respect, compassion, kindness, generosity and unconditional love.
Dr. Vasudevan completed his primary education in his hometown, Manjeri, Malapuram and MBBS from Government Medical College, Calicut.He pursued MD in Biochemistry from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences,New Delhi,followed by Postdoctoral research at the Department of Immunology,Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research, Lausanne, Switzerland. An advanced training course in Immunology at the WHO Immunology Laboratory, Switzerland supported by a course in endocrinological techniques from the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad set the ground for an outstanding career in Cancer Immunology.
